Best Online Casinos in Alberta
When reviewing online casinos, we look at the games, game types, payment methods, T&Cs, variety and customer support options. Currently, the only regulated casino is PlayAlberta - however as of July 13, 2026 we will have plenty more options available for Albertans.
- PlayAlberta is the only regulated online gambling site in Alberta. The online casino is operated by the AGLC, which is the Government of Alberta's Crown commercial enterprise and agency that oversees all iGaming.
Payments & Deposits at Online Casinos in Alberta
Top online casinos have plenty of payment methods available. You can deposit funds with traditional payment options like debit/credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) or bank transfers. Some offer modern payment options like e-wallets (PayPal, Skrill, Neteller) and prepaid cards like PaySafeCard. Choose your first deposit amount and preferred payment method.
Deposit methods
- Mastercard & Visa: One of the most popular payment methods for online casinos. It's fast, safe, easy to use, and often without payment fees.
- Prepaid Cards: PaySafeCards is a prevalent deposit method in Canada. PaysafeCard is an ideal payment option for those who don't want to show gambling-related transactions on their bank statement. It is very similar to the good old cash payment.
- E-wallets: PayPal, Neteller, and Skrill are the best suited for those looking to wager big money.
- Banking Options: Bank Transfers, Wire Transfers, and e-checks. A popular payment option.

Your withdrawal is often processed between 1-72 hours, depending on your payment method.

How We Rate the Best Alberta Online Casinos
To find the best of the best, my team and I review all casinos that launch in Canada. Some sites are good for Ontario casino players, while some are better for Albertans. So, to find the best casinos in your province, we compare different aspects and rank all of the best casinos available. And when it comes to our reviews we look into the six factors listed below:
1. Security and Safety
Before any casino gets added to our Alberta online casino ranking, we check that the site is secured and protects all user data. An online casino should be trustworthy and safe for any player. This means that the casino has a third-party licence that allows players to contact the organisation if there are any issues. In addition, the casino games should be tested regularly to ensure fairness - therefore any sign of eCOGRA (a game testing service) is pointing you in the direction of a fair casino.
2. Game and Software Selection
One of our top priorities for when we rank online casinos is checking what games are available. All of the best casinos have at least: a good seleciton of online slots with a few table games and some live dealer titles. We value casinos that offer the most popular titles and new hits, so there's something for every type of player.
3. Payments (Deposits & Withdrawals)
Making a deposit and a withdrawal should be the easiest part of playing online. We test how fast payments are processed and how long it will take you to get your wins into your bank account. Instant withdrawal casinos are able to transfer money the quickest, so we rank these casinos high. In addition, casinos that accept various payment methods are also ranked higher than those that don't.
4. Customer Support
In an ideal situation, you wouldn't encounter an issue and thus never need to contact the support team. When your payments fail or when you get logged out of your account, customer support is vital. We value a 24/7 live chat the most because this way, the casino can help you in an instant, and you're not stuck waiting for an email reply, or restircted within certain days or hours. In addition, it's important that we can get help in both English and French.
5. Site Design
The last point we like to consider in our rankings is the overall casino design. This includes: how easy it is to use the casino, how the site looks, if it has a bespoke aesthetic, if it lags at all and how well it works on mobile devices. Since most players prefer mobile casinos, the best casinos should be optimised for small screens and work with no lag.

Alberta Online Gambling Regulations (August 2026)
Online gambling is legal in Alberta, through a monopoly. The province's previously only regulated online casino, PlayAlberta, was opened to meet the demand for land-based casinos, of which there are currently 24 in the province.
Online Gambling Laws Before July 13, 2026
It was not possible for you to play at online casinos other than PlayAlberta, though online gambling laws did not prohibit Albertans from using unregulated offshore casinos.
Alberta is now a regulated market on a similar level to Ontario when it comes to regulating online casinos and the whole iGaming market. After the successful launch of the Ontario online casino market, Alberta has now followed the province's lead for full regulation from July 13, 2026.
Bill 48: iGaming Alberta Act Explained
The iGaming Alberta Act, passed in 2025, mimics Ontario's own online gambling regulation as it seeks to allow private sector operators to offer games alongside the provincially run platform on PlayAlberta. The new bill created the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), a new Crown entity tasked with managing commercial online gambling frameworks and contracting with private operators. The market will continue to be regulated by Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC).
AGLC's Role vs. Private Operators
As a regulator, the AGLC serves the Alberta market as a gatekeeper, enforcing regulations and fining private operators who violate the terms of operation. They will vet, approve and register private operators, monitor sites for transparency, game integrity and compliance and operate self-exclusion programmes.
AiGC will act as the intermediary, conducting and managing the online gaming in the region. It will be the official partner of private operators.
What changes for players on July 13, 2026
Read more at Alberta's official government portal here.
When the market officially changes on July 13, Alberta players will no longer be limited to government-mandated PlayAlberta services. Major private-sector players like FanDuel Casino, DraftKings and BetMGM Casino Alberta will launch fully legal, provincially regulated local sites. Caesars Casino has also launched in the province, bringing its established US and Ontario platform to Alberta players. Bet365 Alberta and DraftKings Alberta are also among the regulated operators now available in the province.
Among the brands preparing to launch is Golden Nugget Casino, one of the most recognised names crossing over from the US market. Some approved commercial platforms have been pre-approved to accept player sign-ups and registrations in anticipation of the launch, but can't yet take any deposits or wagers until the official launch date.
AGLC has ordered a total shut-down of grey-market casinos, which will be forced to cease operations after July 13. Players using an offshore site that has successfully gained a licence will have their account migrated to the new, licensed platform. If you have an account at an unlicensed platform, it is encouraged that you withdraw any funds from the account to avoid delays and difficulties accessing the account after the deadline.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind:
- In Alberta, the legal gambling age is 18. The minimum gambling age in Canada varies between 18-19, so keep this in mind when travelling.
- PlayAlberta was previously the only regulated Alberta online casino. As of July 13 2026, regulated platforms now operate in the province.
- Sports betting was legalised in August of 2021 when Canada passed the C-218 bill. You can place bets both online and in land-based casinos.
- Horse racing is a big part of the gambling industry. Horse Racing Alberta is a non-profit organisation that contributes hundreds of millions yearly to the Alberta Lottery Fund.
- The Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) operates lottery and gaming-related activities in Alberta. You can also buy lottery tickets to other lotteries like Lotto 6/49, Canada's most popular lottery.
July 13: Expected First-Batch of Licensed Operators
Dale Nally, Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, announced that the "launch of a regulated iGaming market is an exciting chapter" for Alberta, and he is "confident" that AGLC and AiGC can work together with private operators for a market that is "competitive and socially responsible."
According to Nally, over 50 operators have already applied for a licence, including FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM and BetRivers Casino Alberta. These operators are currently migrating accounts and setting up sportsbooks to service local players with their official platform. They are expected to be granted licences but will still need to clear the final AGLC/AiGC technical and compliance checks before July 13.
You can currently sign up for pre-registration at the likes of BetMGM and other operators as of July 1, 2026. See below:

Evolution of Online Gambling in Alberta
Alberta's journey into the realm of online gambling is both rich and progressive. Initially grounded in a charitable gaming system established in the 1980s, Alberta created a unique gambling environment that has vastly grown over the decades.
- In the 1980s, charitable organisations could obtain a licence to operate casinos, raffle and bingo events.
- The 1990s saw the inauguration of the first land-based casinos. A whopping 11 casinos opened during the decade.
- In 1995, the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) was established as the regulatory body for gambling activities.
- In 2020, PlayAlberta opens its virtual doors for the first time.
- In September 2021, single-game betting received a legal sanction, broadening the scope of gambling in the province.
- Alberta iGaming Bill 43 comes into law on July 13 2026. The AGLC will provide licences to private operators. The Alberta iGaming Commission will manage these relationships and the AGLC will enforce regulation.

Gambling in Other Provinces
Alberta isn't the only province in Canada where online gambling is legal. Manitoba and Nova Scotia have a similar gambling market as Alberta, while Ontario is fully licensed. Albertans can currentpy play on any casino site, but if you're visiting Ontario, you can only play at licensed Ontario casinos.
